Looking after wool rugs and marble tables
Simple care that keeps a rug looking new and marble looking sharp — no special products, just the right habits.
Good pieces are made to last, but a little care keeps them looking their best. None of this is fussy — it’s mostly about a few good habits.
Rugs
- Rotate the rug every few months so it wears — and fades — evenly, especially near windows.
- Vacuum regularly, but switch off the beater bar (or use suction only) to protect the pile.
- Deal with spills straight away: blot, don’t rub, and work from the outside in.
- Use a rug underlay to stop slipping and cushion the pile underfoot.
Marble tables
- Wipe with a soft, damp cloth — skip harsh or acidic cleaners, which can etch the surface.
- Use coasters and mats; marble is porous, so wine, coffee and citrus can mark it if left.
- Blot spills quickly rather than letting them sit.
